Ban the Murder of Endangered Sharks for Their Fins

Target: Congressman Doug Lamborn, Chairman of the House Water, Power, and Oceans Subcommittee

Goal: Make shark finning and trade illegal in the United States.

Endangered sharks in oceans around the world are having their fins brutally cut off while they’re still alive and are left to die a painful, slow death. Fisherman cut off sharks’ fins for medicinal purposes.

In several countries, “finning,” or removing the fin of a shark, is illegal, as is importing those fins. However, this is not the case in America. Legislation introduced to protect endangered sharks from such treatment has stalled in Congress.

Sign the petition and demand that Congress act to outlaw the brutal finning and murder of sharks. Over 20 shark species, 12 of which are endangered, face finning. America should protect the species in its oceans, not allow them to be harvested. Demand that shark finning be made illegal.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Congressman Lamborn,

Sharks, many of them endangered, are being brutally “finned.” Their fins are being shorn from their bodies while they’re still alive. These sharks are left to die a slow and painful death. This practice is illegal in several countries, including Canada. However, this is not the case in America.

Legislation was introduced to ban the practice of finning and the import of its products. However, it has stalled. I ask that you and your committee work to push this legislation through Congress so that sharks in our oceans can be protected from torture and murder.

Sincerely,

  1. Dear Mr. Lamborn;

    I hope you can at least come up with a law and a punishment for people who do not bother to kill the sharks as humanely as possible. Everyone who contributes to the decimation of a species should be held responsible. All people who exploit resources to make a living should be aggressively held to a standard maintaining the decent treatment of the resource and the self-control needed to keep the resource from being destroyed. Thank you for your time.

  2. This brutal practice carried out by sadistic heartless lowlifes should be banned worldwide.
    Although it is banned in Canada, the import of shark fins is allowed, and people can still eat shark fin soup here. Sad.

  4. It is amazing how many people buy into the stupidity of superstitions. May God show no mercy toward them!

    Lawmakers must stand up and show us their intelligence, and create laws that protect out planet. All creatures are intertwined and are part of the planet’s intricate survival structure. Earth can survive without humans, but human without Earth cannot.
