Thank Body Shops that Restored Gay Student’s Vandalized Car For Free

Target: Quality Auto Paint and Body in Roanoke, VA

Goal: Thank businesses that restored vandalized car of bullied student for free

Jordan Addison, a college student at Radford University, experienced problems last semester when his car was vandalized on multiple occasions, three times on campus and once at his home. Addison is gay, and the damages included homophobic slurs carved across one entire side of the car: damages that auto shops could not give him an estimate of less than $2,500 to pay for.

When Richard Henegar Jr., the manager of local business Quality Auto Paint and Body, heard what happened, he felt he needed to do something. With help from 10 other businesses, including Parts Unlimited in Vinton, Advance Auto Parts, Moon’s Auto Body, Rice Toyota, Val’s Automotive, The Rod Shop, B&C Exterminating, Twists & Turns, AJ’s Landscaping, and Sunnybrook Auto Spa, he gave the car an almost complete remodel, with a cost of about $10,000 plus well over 100 work hours, at no cost to Addison. Above and beyond repairing the vandalism, the remodeled car featured new tires, new paint, tinted windows, a new security system, and a complete stereo: practically a new car.

Thank Quality Auto Paint and Body and its manager Richard Henegar Jr. for their generous efforts in remodeling Addison’s car for free and taking a stand against bullying and homophobia.

Dear Richard Henegar Jr. of Quality Auto Paint and Body,

Recently, I heard wind of the events in which your shop sponsored, participated in, and facilitated the remodel of student Jordan Addison’s car after it was vandalized on multiple occasions. The vandalism, which included a homophobic slur carved into the side of the car, was most likely connected to Addison’s status as an out gay man. By giving the car a near complete remodel free of charge, you have been a great humanitarian, and have stood up for bullied youth both gay and otherwise across the country.

For this, I convey to you my gratitude, which I hope you will pass on to the many other businesses you worked with to make this remodel possible. Your actions are an exceptional example of humanitarianism which should be held for all to see.
