Ban California Milk Processing Board’s Anti-Imitation Milk Ads

Target: California Milk Processing Board

Goal: Remove biased and slandering anti-imitation milk ads from television.

The California Milk Processing Board (the organization behind the popular “Got Milk?” advertisements) has recently produced a commercial mocking soy-based imitation milk products. The commercial depicts a 1960’s style game show called “Name the Ingredients in Imitation Milk”, in which two contestants name a slew of chemicals found in soymilk products, implying that these ingredients are unhealthy and superfluous. Not only are many of the ingredients named in the commercial actually common dietary supplements, such as riboflavin and calcium carbonate, but the commercial fails to address the numerous harmful ingredients legitimate dairy products possess as well.

A single glass of milk can contain up to 20 chemicals, including dangerously high levels of antibiotics and growth hormones, both of which are highly detrimental to human health. There are multiple unbiased scientific studies proving that USDA grade dairy products are unhealthy, ill-regulated, and not the most effective source of calcium. Soy and almond based imitation milks are a healthier alternative to the chemical-ridden milk the average American consumes. Advertising that soy products are unhealthy because they contain several ingredients is hypocritical and inaccurate.

We should be more concerned with the general health of the population, not profit. This commercial is only adding to the problem of misinformation in regards to health that already plagues the United States. It also disvalues the necessity of soy and almond based products for lactose intolerant individuals.

Please sign this petition to remove this ignorant advertisement from television and prevent future productions of this nature.

Dear California Milk Processing Board,

I am writing in reference to the recent advertisement your board has produced mocking the benefits of soy based products as an alternative to dairy. Although I understand the dairy industry is a business, a business that generates huge revenue for the United States at that, this commercial is biased and provides and inaccurate depiction of what soy-based products represent.

Soy products are a healthy and viable alternative to dairy for those with moral and health-related dietary restrictions. To assert that dairy products in the United States are held to the highest standard of regulation and are the only healthy source of valuable vitamins and minerals is inaccurate. This commercial is also misinformative and hypocritical considering the high level of hormones and antibiotics found in dairy products.

Despite the obvious desire to generate profit, the health of our citizens should be first and foremost. Televising commercials such as your most recent “Name the Ingredients in Imitation Milk” parody disvalues the scientifically proven benefits of soy based products as a healthy alternative. Please discontinue airing this commercial and refrain from producing slandering commercials in the future.
