Target: Zimbabwe Republic Police
Goal: Return materials seized from LGBT community in Zimbabwe
The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe (GALZ) is a voluntary association founded in 1990 to provide support for members of the LGBT community in Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRB) led its second raid in two weeks against the GALZ office, during which time they seized computers and literature while apparently searching for “illegal data and offensive materials.” Many of these computers were the very same ones taken in a previous May raid and just recently returned.
This manner of abuse against the LGBT community must end. Such occurrences have been ongoing for many years, with constant victimization at the hands of Zimbabwe’s police force. It is necessary that the ZRB not only be held accountable for its violent discriminatory actions, but be forever barred from being allowed to commit such acts. The ZRB must return any and all materials taken during their latest raid and allow said materials to be free from future seizure, especially as they’ve already been previously investigated.
Dear Zimbabwe Republic Police,
Your police force has led its second raid in two weeks against The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe. The first raid saw the unlawful detention of 44 members of the organization without reason for charge, and this second raid was committed with seizure of the organization’s computers and literature. Many of these computers had already been seized in a previous raid and had just recently been returned to them.
You must disallow any further abuse and harassment of the The Gays and Lesbians of Zimbabwe. As an organization which is charged with protection of communities and the maintaining of order, it is necessary that your police force cease any future seizure of either materials or persons. All materials currently being held must be returned to their rightful owners.
