Goal: Applaud developer of credit card designed for recovering drug addicts
It is no surprise that drug and alcohol addiction seriously hurts everyone involved. Not only do addicts often have physical and psychological ailments, but they often end up losing a great deal of their money. Furthermore, many addicts do not limit themselves to their own money and often steal from friends and family members. In the end, an addict loses his or her family a great deal of money. Often, one of the hardest parts of recovery is when an addict leaves rehab and is thrown back into the freedom he or she had before. This freedom can become too much for an addict and they sometimes return to their old habits. One way of making the recovery process easier is by limiting the amount of money an addict can spend. This is exactly what Eric Dresdale has done with “The Next Step Card”.
Dresdale, a recovering addict himself, made a deal with Mastercard to create a credit card that will help addicts take control of their finances. For example, this card cannot be used at bars, strip clubs, or ATMs. This helps addicts stay away from poor environments with drugs and alcohol. Also, family members are able to see every purchase made on the card. This way, if something suspicious is purchased, a family member can question the addict and possibly prevent him or her from relapsing. Not only does this card prevent addicts from making risky purchases, but it also prevents addicts from going into debt. This card is revolutionary and an excellent idea for those in the half-way step between rehab and full recovery. Applaud Eric Dresdale for developing this innovative and useful credit card for addicts.
Dear Eric Dresdale,
Your creation of “The Next Step Card” is extremely innovative and practical. It is very difficult for addicts who leave rehab to be thrown back into the freedoms of “real life”. They often want to go back to their old drug habits and spending habits, and it is hard to resist that temptation. However, your card helps addicts monitor their purchases as well as stay away from areas that may trigger their addiction. Thank you for creating this very helpful credit card and making the journey to recovery a little bit easier.
Addicts are almost always financially unstable. In order to feed their drug/alcohol habit, they need to continually purchase their drug, leaving them without money most of the time. They often find themselves in severe debt simply in order to feed their addiction. Addicts themselves are not the only ones who suffer financially from this situation. Often, addicts steal money from friends and family members in order to buy drugs, thus hurting the finances of their loved ones as well. With this card, not only are addicts unable to get themselves into more debt, but their family members are also able to check each purchase made. This helps everyone in the family stop losing money and start recovering. Again, thank you so much for the innovative credit card you designed in order to help addicts on their path to recovery.
