Target: Nevada Fox Affiliate
Goal: Renew Nevada radio show “House of Savoy”, which was canceled by a local Fox News affiliate after hosting one interview with an LGBT advocate
A Nevada radio show called House of Savoy, which has been airing on KKFT radio for a year, has been canceled after host Sean Savoy hosted a single 30-minute interview with an LGBT advocate. The interview covered several topics, including the recent Chick-Fil-A controversy and marriage equality, and was a fair and accurate review of LGBT politics where the community came off in a largely positive light. After over a year of programming, this was the first time House of Savoy had ever covered the topic of LGBT politics. When telling Savoy about the show’s cancellation, his producer explained that KKFT’s owner Jerry Evans had ordered it canceled specifically on account of the LGBT focused interview.
Sean Savoy is an ordained minister. Before the show’s cancellation, he had received absolutely no complaints about its content, which focused on general public affairs and had covered several other topics. Although he had not discussed his sexual orientation before this point, the incident prompted Savoy to come out publicly as gay.
Tell Jerry Evans that Nevada listeners deserve to hear accurate and balanced information about the LGBTQ community on his station. Demand House of Savoy be reinstated, and that an apology be made for its untimely cancellation.
Dear Jerry Evans, owner of KKFT Radio,
I am writing following your canceling of the radio show House of Savoy, which had been running nearly a year prior to its cancellation. Sean Savoy, the host of the show, has suggested that the show was canceled for having conducted a single interview with a local LGBT advocate, which covered several current LGBT issues in an accurate and balanced manner. Previous to that interview, no complaints had been made about the show’s content, which had been focused on several categories of public affairs. Savoy is an ordained minister who has filled several roles in his life and been an educator on several topics. To cancel the show simply because he covered LGBT issues in a fair and honest manner is inexcusable.
KKFT’s listeners deserve to have access to accurate, positive coverage of LGBT issues. I ask that you rethink your decision and reinstate House of Savoy immediately, and issue and apology for its abrupt and unfair cancellation.
