Encourage Pet Owner to Take Responsibility for Abusing and Abandoning Turtle

Target: Owner of pet turtle that was found taped to balloons

Goal: Demand that pet owner come forward and take accountability for the treatment of his or her turtle.

A turtle taped to a bunch of helium balloons was found dangling from a eucalyptus tree in a California neighborhood. The turtle had been somebody’s pet and was most likely sent adrift because it was no longer wanted. Treating the turtle in this cruel manner is animal abuse and the person responsible for this abuse should take accountability and step forward.

Unwanted pets are often abandoned when they could instead be taken to shelters or humane societies. Disposing of the pet turtle in this manner was no doubt humorous to its owner, but put the turtle’s life at great risk. The turtle could have fallen to its death at any point if it had become detached from the balloons. Similarly, the turtle could have landed in a dangerous location such as a busy intersection, which would have jeopardized its life and the lives of drivers.

Luckily, the turtle landed in a tree where a family saw it and called the Oceanside Humane Society. The turtle is currently in their care, and an investigation is in progress. It was wrong to treat an animal in this way and those responsible for abusing this turtle should come forward and take accountability for his or her actions.

Dear owner of abused and abandoned pet turtle,

Taping a pet turtle to a bunch of balloons and setting it free was wrong. Treating the turtle in this cruel manner greatly jeopardized its life and could have jeopardized the lives of others if the turtle had landed in a dangerous location such as a busy intersection. Your actions were abusive and unnecessary. Many animal shelters and humane societies are willing to take unwanted animals. If you did not want the turtle, you should have made arrangements to provide another home for your pet instead of endangering its life.

The turtle is currently in the care of the Oceanside Humane Society. As its owner, you should have the integrity and decency to come forward and claim responsibility for your actions. Doing so will allow you to prove that you are not as heartless as your actions show you to be. Please step forward today and show accountability for how you have treated this helpless animal.

Scum of the earth..tie them to a few balloons and with a bit of luck ,they’ll drop from a great height. What use are these people to anyone? Get rid of them!

  2. Remember the anchormen who were swept into the air while holding on to the ropes, trying to do their jobs and died at the time of helium dirigibles? Let’s condemn this pervert to a similar fate.
