Demand Justice for Young Man Brutally Beaten by Cops

cops

Target: Charlie Beck, Los Angeles Chief of Police

Goal: Suspend police officers who brutally attacked 20-year-old man who was skateboarding on the wrong side of the road

Recently, 20-year-old Ronald Weekly Jr. was riding his skateboard in Venice, California when he was attacked by four police officers. The officers tackled Weekly Jr. to the ground and continuously hit him and punched him. A witness took a video on a cell phone that shows the officers punching Weekly Jr. viciously in the face. They claimed that Weekly was resisting arrest, yet he argues that he could not have fought back if he wanted to. With four cops wrestling him to the ground, there is no way he could have fought back.

One of the cops involved says that they approached Weekly Jr. because he was riding his skateboard on the wrong side of the road. How did this innocent misunderstanding on Weekly Jr.’s part result in him having a broken nose, a broken cheekbone, and a concussion? This was clearly an unwarranted and vicious attack against a young man. Weekly’s parents believe that he was targeted due to racial profiling. They insist that the police in their area are better trained to work in ethnic areas. These officers must be at least suspended from their jobs if not something more severe. Demand justice for Ronald Weekly Jr. after he was unfairly and viciously beaten by police officers.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Charlie Beck,

Recently, four police officers attacked and beat a young man in Venice. Ronald Weekly was riding his skateboard when four police officers approached him, tackled him to the ground, and began punching and hitting him. The officers claim that Weekly was resisting arrest, yet he argues that, with four cops pinning him to the ground, he couldn’t resist arrest even if he wanted to. He couldn’t do much more than scream for help while the officers were punching him in the face. Now, Weekly Jr. suffers from a broken nose, broken collar bone, and a concussion.

The actions of these officers were completely unwarranted and vicious. They claim to have approached Weekly Jr. for riding his skateboard on the wrong side of the street, but that type of “crime” should not have had such a violent result. It is possible that Weekly Jr. was racially profiled and thus attacked more harshly. It is necessary for you to better train officers to work in ethnic neighborhoods. If officers do not seem to be able to work in ethnic neighborhoods, they should be placed elsewhere. These four cops should at least be suspended from duty, if not something harsher. It is imperative that you look into this case further in order to get justice for Weekly Jr. These cops must be punished for their brutal actions.

Sincerely,
