Target: Chief Constable Jim Chu of the Vancouver Police Department
Goal: Fire the Canadian policeman who kicked a cooperating, handcuffed man.
A Vancouver, BC police officer was recently caught on tape kicking a handcuffed man hard enough to knock him over. The man was sitting passively, exhibiting no behavior to warrant the violence. The Vancouver Police Department must fire this man for his inappropriate aggression.
Ryan James Felton was experiencing a bad reaction to drugs when he was arrested for trying to enter somebody else’s house. A local news producer was on the scene and filmed the arrest. The man was shown sitting on a street curb in handcuffs while police questioned him. Then for no apparent reason, a plainclothes police officer kicked him in the chest so hard that Mr. Felton’s head snapped back and he fell to the ground.
Police brutality is a very serious issue that needs to be approached with a zero tolerance attitude. Law enforcers have power over citizens, and individuals who would take advantage of that power must be weeded out and removed. The officer responsible for the unnecessary act of aggression clearly believed that this sort of behavior was appropriate and within his job description. His grave mistake must serve as an example. By signing the petition below, you can ask Chief Constable Jim Chu of the Vancouver Police Department to ensure that this violent policeman is fired.
Dear Chief Constable Chu,
The policeman who was recently filmed kicking Ryan James Felton in the chest should not be wearing a badge. As is made apparent in the video, Felton was cooperating with the policemen by sitting and answering questions. For a professional law enforcer to randomly and brutally kick a handcuffed man is completely inappropriate, and should be met with swift and harsh action. The behavior suggests a tendency for violence and a sense of entitlement beyond the proper limits of this individual’s position.
Police officers are vital to our communities and deserving of the highest appreciation and respect. Unfortunately, it is actions such as these that reflect poorly upon your admirable profession. While most police officers wield their power responsibly, those few who do not should be treated with zero tolerance. Please ensure that the individual responsible for kicking Mr. Felton is removed from his position.
