No U.S. War in Venezuela

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Commit to rejecting military action against Venezuela.

U.S. President Donald Trump recently shocked the Western Hemisphere by suggesting he was considering a war against Venezuela. Speaking to reporters while on holiday at a golf course in New Jersey, Trump said a “military option” is “certainly something that we could pursue.”

“We have many options for Venezuela, including a possible military option, if necessary,” Trump said.

Since then, Vice President Mike Pence has doubled down on Trump’s rhetoric, stating in Colombia that the U.S. will use its “full economic and diplomatic weight to help restore democracy in Venezuela.”

The U.S. is already involved in conflicts in at least four countries: including in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia. Meanwhile, Trump has also suggested military action in the Philippines, and nuclear war with North Korea.

If you think we don’t need yet another war, then please sign this petition demanding Trump commit to staying out of Venezuela.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

Venezuela is currently struggling with its worst economic downturn in at least two decades, along with a deep political crisis that has claimed the lives of well over 100 people. This already horrific death toll will no doubt spiral out of control if your administration opts for a “military option,” as you recently suggested.

Venezuela needs many things: an economic recovery, political dialogue and peace on the streets of Caracas — it doesn’t need to be carpet bombed. U.S. military action will do nothing but make a bad situation worse, and drag Americans into yet another foreign war. Nobody has anything to gain from another military quagmire: least of all the people of Venezuela, who are tired of violence. We therefore demand you commit to staying out of Venezuela.

Sincerely,
