Don’t Execute Religious Minorities

Target: Waleed bin Mohammad Al Samaani, Minister of Justice, Saudi Arabia

Goal: Don’t execute religious minorities for nonviolent offenses.

Religious minorities in Saudi Arabia are being executed by the government for nonviolent offenses. Currently, 14 members of the Shia community are at risk of execution, convicted of nonviolent offenses such as protesting and drug crimes.

Executions in Saudi Arabia have risen considerably over the last year. In the first half of 2017 alone, nearly 40 individuals were executed by the Saudi government. Most of them were charged with drug offenses. Meanwhile, the men currently awaiting their execution say they were coerced into confessing by torture.

Saudi Arabia is blatantly going against the Arab Charter on Human Rights by executing men involved in nonviolent crimes. It appears that perhaps the only reason these men were targeted is because they are members of the religious minority. Sign the petition below and demand that Saudi Arabia not execute nonviolent offenders.

Dear Minister Waleed bin Mohammad Al Samaani,

Over a dozen men are facing execution in Saudi Arabia. These members of the Shia faith were convicted of nonviolent offenses such as protesting and drug crimes. No one should be executed for such offenses. To do so blatantly violates human rights laws.

In addition, these men may have been targeted because of their religion. They claim they were forced to confess to these nonviolent crimes through torture. These events are alarming, and I ask that you respect the human rights laws you agreed to. I urge you to investigate the nature of these confessions and not execute those men convicted of nonviolent offenses.

Saudi executes everyone, rape victims, gays, black dogs, kids, it doesn’t matter and they are unlikely to stop. Still, it’s worth asking – again.
