Target: Teen’s mother, Amanda Sandidge
Goal: Support mother for suing school over her daughter’s strip search
Recently, a 16-year-old in Kansas City was strip searched at her school. Apparently another student told school officials that she had drugs on her in order to get her in trouble. The two girls liked the same boy, which drove the other student to falsely accuse Sandidge of having drugs. In order to find out if she had drugs on her the school asked the teenager, who was 15 at the time, to allow them to perform a strip search. Female faculty at the school made the teenager expose her breasts in order to ensure that she didn’t have any drugs.
This invasive search has had a severe lasting effect on the girl’s life. According to her mother, Amanda Sandidge, she has dropped out of school and does not want to leave the house. What happened to this teenager was extremely traumatic and those in charge deserve to face consequences. Amanda Sandidge decided to sue the school for strip searching her daughter and thus, traumatizing her. She is suing for violation of the teenager’s rights and freedom for over $75,000. Although she faces criticism by those who think her daughter is lying, Amanda Sandidge took a bold stand in deciding to sue the school. She is sticking to her gut feeling and protecting her daughter. Applaud Amanda Sandidge for suing her daughter’s school after this invasive strip search.
Dear Amanda Sandidge,
I want to applaud your decision to sue your daughter’s school over her strip search. What the school officials put your daughter through was completely invasive and inappropriate. Clearly, she did not have drugs on her and was set up by another student, so the search should not have been necessary. They did not receive your consent, thus they conducted this strip search without proper permission and therefore deserve to be sued. They not only broke the law by neglecting to get your consent, but they also violated a young girl.
While some people may not support your decision to sue the school, I believe your choice is fully justified and reasonable. They psychologically damaged your daughter, and she is going to remember that for the rest of her life. They had no right to violate her privacy so crudely, especially without your consent. You and your daughter deserve to get closure from this event, and suing the school is an excellent way to do so. I fully support your decision to sue your daughter’s school and hope that she can move on from this traumatic event with minimal pain.
