Save Bat Species from Extinction

Target: António Costa, Prime Minister of Portugal

Goal: Protect Southern Europe’s grey long-eared bat population.

The grey long-eared bat population is in danger once again, this time in Southern Europe. Things have improved for the UK’s formerly endangered population of the species, but reports say that the Southern European population holds the key to the entire species’ survival; according to scientific reports, the bats in this particular area have the strongest genetic diversity. The spread of such genes is vital to the survival of the rest of the world’s population.

Bats as a whole are highly important to nature; they are responsible for the fertilization of land, pollination of fruits and flowers, and the spread of seeds to help rebuild damaged rainforests. Grey long-eared bats in particular control the population of insects in their geographical range, which can be life-saving during mosquito season and helpful to farmers and botanists.

We cannot let this species die out, and protecting the grey long-eared bats of countries such as Spain and Portugal is key to their survival. Sign this petition to demand stronger protection and conservation of these animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Costa,

The grey long-eared bat population could be in danger due to the changing climate conditions of Southern Europe. The bats within this area hold the key to the species’ survival due to their superior genetics and adaptability; furthermore, the bats are beneficial to human life due to their diet consisting mainly of insects. This can be life-saving during mosquito season, and helpful to farmers or botanists who wish to protect their plant life from insects without chemicals.

You must help to preserve this species. Bats are highly important to the environment as a whole, and your country is one of the few in particular whose bat population is at risk due to changing conditions. Help us fight climate change and provide stronger protection for this species, and ensure that the grey long-eared bat population remains strong and stable.

Sincerely,
