Don’t Let Oil Company Destroy Amazon River’s Coral Reef

Target: Sarney FilhoMinistry of Environment, Brazil

Goal: Don’t allow oil drilling to destroy newly discovered coral reef in the Amazon.

A newly discovered coral reef in the mouth of Brazil’s Amazon River may soon be destroyed by oil drilling. Major oil companies, including BP, are developing plans to drill near the site of the coral reef, one of the largest coral reefs in the world. The reef is home to over 70 species of fish and 60 species of sponge.

Oil drilling has already caused irreparable damage to our planet’s waters and the habitats they support. BP is just one of the companies responsible for such destruction. Should BP and others drill near the site of this new coral reef, endangered species native to the Amazon may be killed.

With so many of our planet’s coral reefs already destroyed or dying, those that are left must be protected. Sign the petition and ask that this newly discovered coral reef in the Amazon be protected from oil drilling and its damaging consequences.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Filho,

The newly discovered coral reef in the mouth of Brazil’s Amazon River is one of the largest existing coral reefs in the world. It’s home to a variety of species and directly supports the endangered species of the Amazon. However, it may soon be destroyed by oil drilling.

Oil drilling has already led to the destruction of our planet’s waters, coral reefs, and the habitats they support. The damage oil leaks cause costs millions of dollars to repair and in many cases lead to death and destruction that is irreparable. I ask that oil drilling be banned in the area of the newly discovered coral reef so that the few remaining reefs our planet has left can be protected.

Sincerely,

Some species of fish get their food off the coral and for other species it is a haven for protection. Coral is very necessary for the survival of the oceans and its inhabitants.

Don’t let them??? How can you stop them??? They’ve got the money – power – and authority to do pretty much whatever they please. I mean – really – what can you say or do to actually stop them. They don’t give a damn about the environment. They’ll just say the drilling is as safe as it can possibly be and for most people that’s good enough. If they are really to be stopped – it probably won’t be by any legal means – as they are protected by the “law” – and whatever “that” means now days is literally beyond imagination – – –

This coral reef is unique and priceless – it can never be replaced – for goodness sake keep the oil companies away – they destroy everything there is – one of these days there will no longer be a demand for oil – then we live with a barren world destroyed in the name of money – PLEASE DON’T ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN
