Ban Trade of Lion Bones Used to Make Phony Medicine

Target: President of South Africa, Zuma

Goal: Ban trade of lion bones and organs, which could drive lions to the brink of extinction

South African lions are being killed to make fraudulent concoctions that claim to boost men’s performance in sex. Also, rich tourists that go to South Africa with unchecked desires to hunt wild animals participate in “canned hunting” activities, where they pay thousands to shoot lions and other exotic animals through fences. The demand for this cruel activity has sparked the growth of lion farms, where lions are raised under appalling conditions.

The growing number of lion farms combined with the recent global ban on tiger bone sales has wildlife traders collecting the bones of lions killed during canned hunting. Experts say these lion bones are exported to Asia to make phony medicine for record profits. Now, the lion bone trade is exploding, and wildlife conservation experts fear that rising prices will cause poachers to begin killing wild lions for their bones. With only 20,000 wild lions left in all of Africa, this potential poaching attack would be devastating.

If the South African government is going to keep promoting South Africa as a tourist destination with a majestic natural heritage, then it must stop the growing industry that could drive lions to the brink of extinction. Sign the petition below to urge President Zuma to ban the trade in lion bones.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Zuma,

As a concerned world traveler with a great fascination and respect for the natural world, I am greatly disturbed to learn of the harmful practices against lions that are taking place in your country. The most alarming is the growing trade in lion bones and organs.

The number of lion farms used for “canned hunting” combined with the recent global ban on tiger bone sales have wildlife traders collecting the bones of lions killed during canned hunting.

If you expect to effectively promote South Africa as a tourist destination with a majestic natural heritage, then you must stop the growing lion bone trade that could drive lions to the brink of extinction. I would like to travel to South Africa and recommend my experience to my friends, but if the senseless lion trade continues, I will not be able to support your tourism industry. I urge you to do all you can to ban the cruel trade in lion bones and organs.

Sincerely,

  1. How disgusting it is for South Africa to allow the canned hunting of lions and other exotic animals that are basically tamed animals to be shot in enclosures through fences! These beautiful majestic lions treated as if their just targets to be shot by people who just want to kill these animals by any means and use them as trophies! How sordid this is and then using their bones to send to Asia for phony medicines which have no value is absolutely egregious especially as it is only encouraging more canned hunting cruelty and the poaching of wild lions. There are only 20,000 wild lions left in all of Africa! The terrible trade of lions bones and cruel canned hunting must be stopped!

this situation is not good for Animals,Nature and also for humans. killing of beautiful animals (lions)for trade or earning some money is only selfishness and ferocity. need to stop this wrong Activity

  2. All species suffer when one species suffers
The majority of endangered species are endangered because of the actions of human ignorance and greed. RESERACH HAS PROVEN OVER & OVER BOLLOCKS REMEDY/MEDICINE,SUPERSTITIONS ONLY!
STH AFRICA THIS IS BLOOD MONEY!!! THEN YOU WONDER WHY A WHOLE CONTINENT IS IN CHAOS-KARMA…

  3. It seems that Asia is behind all kinds of animal slaughter in South Africa and the world for their stupid benefits! Have you been close to a lion? Do you know how majestic they are? Perhaps these Asian people and professional hunters should go into the same cage with these lions and let’s see who’s “bones” and organs will be harvested then! If you kill another human being you are called a murderer, if you kill more than one human being you are called a serial killer. Why is human life more important than an animal? For the professional hunter, only cowards hide behind a gun! That trophy against your wall was a beautiful majestic live animal and your eagerness to get such a trophy, is destroying God’s creation. Judgement day comes and you will have to be judged on your actions in front of God. STOP SLAUGHTERING OUR BEAUTIFUL LIONS AND RHINOS AND ALL OTHER ANIMALS IN SOUTH AFRICA AND THE WORLD!!!
