Cut Off Syria’s Main Weapons Supplier

A Colombian police officer shows on Sept

Target: U.S. President Barack Obama and India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Goal: Cancel all deals with Syria’s main weapons supplier, Rosoboronexport, until it halts all weapons sales to Syria.

Russian company Rosoboronexport is the main supplier of weapons to the brutal Syrian regime. Since India and the US together make up over half of Russian arm sales, they could pressure Rosoboronexport to halt all weapons sales to Syria. Urge India and the US to cancel all deals with Rosoboronexport and save thousands of Syrian people from further massacre.

The terrible situation in Syria continues to horrify, as every day more innocent children, women and men are found murdered. Both the US and India claim to want to stop the violence in Syria, but diplomacy is failing miserably. The best way to begin to put an end to the massacres is to cut off the flow of arms to the Syrian regime.

India and the US are main clients to the state-owned Russian arms company, Rosoboronexport, which also happens to be Syria’s principal weapons supplier. If they threaten to cancel existing and future contracts with Rosoboronexport until it halts all weapons sales to Syria, the arms company could be forced to stop supporting Syria’s murderous regime.

The US has already persuaded Rosoboronexport to stop light weapons sales to Syria. If we can urge India to do the same and both countries threaten to withdraw their money, Rosoboronexport will undoubtedly choose to cut Syria’s arms supply rather than risk losing its key clients.

Sign the petition below to call on India and the US to use their monetary influence on Rosoboronexport to stop the spiral of violence in Syria.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear U.S. President Barack Obama and India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,

In light of the massacres that continue happening every day in Syria, I call on you to cancel your existing and future contracts with Russian arms company Rosoboronexport until it halts all its weapon sales to Syria. Rosoboronexport is the main supplier of weapons to the brutal Syrian regime. The weapons they sell to Syria are used to murder thousands of people and create a state of terror and despair. India and the US together make up over half of Russian arm sales. If both countries use their monetary influence to persuade Rosoboronexport to stop selling weapons to Syria, countless Syrian lives could be saved.

I urge you to work together to do all you can to stop the spiral of violence in Syria. Please cancel existing and future contracts with Rosoboronexport until it halts all weapons sales to Syria.

While I support the aim of this petition we should also look at the arms supplies for the opposition coming from Saudi Arabia and Quatar. While I support the Syrian opposition in their aim to get rid of Assad I also side with all the Syrian people who have grave misgivings about the outcome if this happens. Who wants to see a hardline fundamentalist Islamic state in Syria? Just look at what is happening in Mali.
