Demand Just Punishment for Chinese ‘Pranksters’

Demand a Just Sentence for Men Who Abused Du Chuanwang

Target: General Office of Shandong Provincial People’s Government

Goal: Demand a just punishment for the men who abused 13-year-old Du Chuanwang by forcing tubing up his rectum and filling him with air.

Du Chuanwang, a 13-year-old boy living in the province of Shandong, China, will never be the same. On July 13, 2012, two men at the mechanic shop where Du apprenticed decided to play a “joke” on Du, and slammed him to the ground. They forced tubing from a nearby air pump into the boy’s rectum and filled his body with compressed air until his belly was visibly inflated. This prank cost Du kidney, liver, and stomach failure. It caused internal bleeding and spawned a deadly infection on parts of the boy’s face and alimentary tract. After twenty hours of surgery and an eight-day coma, no one is laughing.

Although the men who attacked Du were “detained,” it appears that no further details have been released by the Shandong Provincial Department of Public Security about whether or not the men will be tried for their actions. This violent act of aggression is child abuse in one of its ugliest forms and should receive higher sanctions than mere criminal detention, which is one of the lowest penalties in the Chinese justice system. A sentence of detention is served in a local detention center instead of a prison and can be as lax as to allow offenders to periodically return to their homes and jobs and be paid at work during their confinement.

This incident must be elevated to the People’s Procuratorate in the Shandong Province, a state division that has the power to publicly investigate and prosecute in criminal cases. The men responsible for this monstrous crime should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Doing so will show individuals that such acts will not be tolerated and will prevent the future abuse of children in China.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Shandong Provincial People’s Government,

Du Chuanwang of Shandong, China is a young boy who was recently attacked while working at a mechanic shop where he was an apprentice. Two of his co-workers, the perpetrators of the attack, said that their actions were only a prank. However, Du was severely injured by the men and sustained multiple organ failures, necrosis, and internal bleeding.

Du Chuanwang’s attackers have been detained but no further details have been released concerning their current status or how they will be tried. The violent act of aggression they committed is child abuse in one of its ugliest forms and should receive higher sanctions than mere criminal detention, which is one of the lightest punishments an offender can receive in China.

The men responsible for this monstrous crime should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. It is imperative that this incident be considered a criminal case rather than a minor offense and should immediately be elevated to the People’s Procuratorate in the Shandong Province so that Du’s perpetrators can be publicly tried and sentenced. Doing so will show individuals that crimes against youth will not be tolerated and will allow Du Chuanwang to receive the justice he deserves.

Sincerely,
