Fire Utility Worker Who Allegedly Shot Dog

Target: Jeff Bush, President of Metro Engineering Solutions

Goal: Demand that a utility worker accused of shooting a dog in her own yard be terminated.

A surveyor has allegedly shot and killed a family dog in her own yard in the Detroit area. The dog, a four-year-old Dutch-German Shepherd mix named Katie, was behind an invisible fence at the time the worker had cut his way into the yard to access a meter.

The worker, an employee of Metro Engineering Solutions, is accused of having shot the dog, claiming that the animal “lunged at [him].” The dog’s owners discovered Katie slumped on the ground after hearing a single “loud pop.” Within moments, she died in owner Doug Eiben’s arms. Mr. Eiben says his dog was not aggressive and would not have left the perimeter of the invisible fence.

The dog’s owners, and others, are now questioning why this worker was armed in the first place. Even a representative for the company, Jim Moskal, says he is uncertain of official policy regarding weapons.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of surveyors manage to do their jobs in yards each day without having to harm dogs. The death of this family pet is tragic and was completely unnecessary. Sign this petition to tell the president of Metro Engineering Solutions that this worker must not be allowed to continue at his position, and that the company’s own policies must be reviewed and changed to prevent similar incidents in the future.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Bush,

A utility worker employed at Metro Engineering Solutions has allegedly shot and killed a dog in her own yard, claiming that the dog “lunged at [him].” The owner is disputing this claim, and says his dog would not have approached the worker since she was behind an invisible fence.

This dog’s death was both unnecessary and cruel. All across America, countless surveyors conduct their work in yards. In many instances, there are dogs present. A sensible approach, such as knocking on the owner’s front door first to have the dog brought in, should have been possible.

We, the undersigned, demand that this worker be removed from his position immediately and that your company’s policies regarding weapons and interactions with animals be reviewed to prevent tragedies such as this in the future.

Sincerely,

  2. Why do people in America worship guns so much? I just don’t understand why so many people and animals are killed, for no reason. It seems to be a case of “shoot first, ask questions later”. So sad in a so-called “civilised” society!

  9. Kelly Hudson says:

What is a surveyor doing carrying a gun? Why is it open season on dogs and other animals. Dogs in their own yards in their own homes. Tapes show other incidents where the shooter said the dogs charged him….they didn’t do anything. It was a police officer which there seems to be a lot of those in the news lately. This worker should be fired, and criminal charges need to be filed. This was a family pet who was loved. RIP Katie. Humans can’t hurt you anymore😡😭😡😭😡😭😡😭😡😭
