Don’t Cut Overtime Pay for American Workers

Target: Secretary of Labor R. Alexander Acosta

Goal: Don’t undo overtime pay regulations and protections for American workers.

American workers, who already struggle with a minimum wage that has not kept up with inflation, will soon be dealt another blow by the Trump Administration, which is seeking to ban them from earning overtime pay. It was President Obama who first attempted to protect these workers. Now, as with so much in his presidency, Donald Trump is trying to undo one of President Obama’s policies.

Obama’s protections, had courts not blocked them shortly before Trump’s inauguration, would have protected over 4 million workers. Currently, people earning a little over $20,000 per year were the only ones eligible for overtime. This regulation would have doubled that salary to $47,000.

Trump ran a candidacy in which he vowed to protect American workers. However, he has done nothing but punish them and make their lives harder. Sign the petition and demand that the Trump Administration not cut overtime pay for American workers.

Dear Secretary Acosta,

Under the direction of the Trump Administration, the federal government is seeking to rescind a bill that would have protected over 4 million American workers and protect their ability to earn overtime pay. The bill would have raised the minimum salary, giving workers who often work over a standard 40 hours a week the ability to earn a pay that reflects their work.

American workers struggle enough. They deal with low wages that have not kept up with the pace of inflation. They deal with high health care costs and tax hikes. I ask that you protect them by allowing them to earn overtime pay.
