Stop Proposed Budget Cuts to Foreign Aid

Target: Paul Ryan, U.S. Speaker of the House

Goal: Stop budget cuts to foreign aid.

President Trump’s “America first” agenda plans to cut civilian foreign aid by more than 30 percent. These severe cuts will result in millions of people in developing countries starving to death, watching their children die of preventable diseases, or falling victim to ISIS.

The U.S. has been providing foreign aid for years, not only to foster stable relations with other countries, but to help those who sorely need it. This goes beyond numbers on a page or a badge of pride we can carry for doing good — this is about the protection of those with less access to good health care, safety, and provisions.

Additionally, foreign aid spending benefits the U.S. greatly. It creates new economies and consumers, which in turn opens up new job opportunities for U.S. citizens. It also helps to promote democracy as a symbol of security for developing nations. The proposed budget cuts would destroy a huge portion of the United States’ income through the elimination of foreign markets.

Foreign aid is one of the most important parts of our budget, and we cannot let it be slashed to less than one percent. Sign this petition to stop these unnecessary budget cuts.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Speaker Ryan,

President Trump’s proposed budget cuts to foreign aid are unacceptable. Millions of people who rely on the U.S. for a helping hand will die of starvation, fall victim to ISIS, and watch their children die of preventable diseases. Additionally, it feeds the misconception that the only way to bolster our country’s well-being is to spend all of the budget on ourselves.

Foreign aid has done much to benefit the U.S. for years; it has helped to spread the ideals of democracy as a symbol of security, and it creates new consumer markets as well as job opportunities. It helps to foster good relations with other countries, and it saves lives.

Foreign aid is much too important to cut even by a sliver of the budget. You must not allow these cuts to be made official. Do not cripple the United States’ economy and good standing.

Sincerely,
