Stop Japanese Company From Dumping Nuclear Waste Into Ocean

Target: Takashi Kawamura, Chairperson of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.

Goal: Cancel plans to dump nuclear wastewater into the ocean.

Hundreds of thousands of tons of toxic waste from one of history’s worst nuclear disasters is about to be dumped into the ocean, if the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) gets its way. The company wants to dispose of around 777,000 tons of water contaminated with tritium off Japan’s coast, as part of broader efforts to clean up the site of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. The decision has been met with outrage from the Japanese fishing industry, along with environmentalists who fear the contaminated water could cause a marine disaster.

A nuclear byproduct, tritium is notoriously difficult to filter out from water, and is suspected to be linked to cancer. However, the company claims its tritium will be diluted to harmless levels in the ocean. As far as Tepco is concerned, it’s a done deal.

“The decision has already been made,” Tepco chairperson Takashi Kawamura said.

Let’s make Kawamura change his mind. Sign below to demand that this pollution of our oceans is not allowed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Kawamura,

Your company, Tepco, wants to dump hundreds of thousands of tons of water laced with tritium from Fukushima into the ocean. Naturally, this has shocked environmentalists and the Japanese fishing industry alike, with concerns being raised that the tritium could devastate marine life. To many, this looks like an example of Tepco trying to relieve itself of responsibility for Fukushima, and instead heap the nuclear burden on the rest of us.

Tepco has an obligation to clean up its own mess at Fukushima without causing further environmental damage. We therefore demand you abandon this plan to dump contaminated water into the sea. Find somewhere else to store your tritium.

Sincerely,

  10. Petitions don’t work. What is required is for people to demand the governments of the world FORCE Japan to accept help from nations who know how to stop this obscenity before the entire planet is dead.
There are scientific methods. Consider that Russia solved this. They have offered to help Japan for YEARS to no avail. It is time the people of the world spoke up to their GOVERNMENTS to stop this.
