Oppose Cuts To Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programs

Target: Tom Price, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services

Goal: Do not cut funding for teen pregnancy prevention programs.

The Trump administration has suddenly cut more than $200 million in funding from teen pregnancy prevention programs. More than 80 organizations, given five-year grants during the Obama administration for pregnancy prevention programs, will now stop receiving funding in June 2018, two years early.

Cutting funding halfway through the intended timeline means these programs will likely be unable to confirm any scientifically valid findings; any collected data will be nearly impossible to analyze. More than 25 percent of girls in the United States become pregnant by the time they’re 20 years old. The American teen birth rate is higher than in other developed countries, and especially high in poor and minority areas.

Many members of the Trump administration, including Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, advocate abstinence education and are vehemently opposed to any other sexual education. These budget cuts not only ignore the reality of sexual activity among American teens; they endanger the health of American girls and prevent access to vital sexual health information. Add your name to the petition below to oppose this dangerous and ignorant decision.

Dear Mr. Price,

Your department recently made substantial cuts to teen pregnancy prevention programs across the United States. Grants that were intended to last for five years will now end two years early, which is incredibly wasteful.

While your personal feelings on abstinence education are well known, the reality is that more than a quarter of American girls become pregnant by the time they turn 20. American teen birth rates are high compared to those in other developed nations, and educating teens about pregnancy and STI prevention is vitally important in order to lower those rates.

I strongly urge you to reverse this dangerous decision. These cuts will result in more teen pregnancies and more teens remaining uneducated regarding pregnancy and STI prevention.

  2. It means, that young people, females and males, must be more intelligent about it having sex. Having children is not a game, they demand love, caring, full attention, lot of time – and money.
Parents and grand parents should not be expected to raise the unwanted children of their offspring.

In the Age of information and awareness, when all data is literally at your fingertips, not knowing is not an excuse.

prevention of pregnancy for adolescents and children are the best thing to do by banning child/adolescent pregnancy now! overpopulation has to stop right now! we all need to decrease the population slowly.
