Fire Officers Who Fatally Shot Innocent, Unarmed Woman

Target: Janeé Harteau, Minneapolis Police Chief

Goal: Fire officers who mysteriously shot unarmed woman, Justine Damond.

40-year-old Justine Damond was unarmed when she was allegedly shot by police officers. She was greeting the officers at the scene of a possible crime she’d reported when the officers fatally wounded her.

It is still unclear what could have provoked the officers to shoot her. Although Minneapolis police are required to wear body cameras, neither of the officers at the scene had turned their cameras on, and the dashcam footage from the patrol car failed to capture anything. Audio from the scene has not been released to the public. Damond’s hometown newspaper reported that two officers arrived in the alley behind Damond’s home in their squad car following her 911 call. She approached the driver’s side door and was talking with the driver when the officer in the passenger seat reportedly fired his weapon and killed her.

Justine Damon’s death is one of over 500 fatal police shootings in the U.S. this year alone. An independent investigation has been launched and the officers have been put on paid leave. However, this is clearly not enough. Police brutality has become an epidemic in this country and cannot be allowed to stand. Sign below to demand that these officers be fired for the unacceptable conduct that caused the death of an innocent civilian.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Police Chief Harteau,

The fatal shooting of Justine Damond is more than just a tragedy — it is a symptom of the epidemic of police brutality in this country, and something must be done about it. Damond’s death was unnecessary, avoidable, and inexcusable. She and her family deserve justice.

Damond was the person who called the police to report a possible sexual assault that she thought might be occurring near her home. She came out unarmed and in her pajamas when the police arrived, and they inexplicably shot her. This conduct is entirely unacceptable from officers trained to protect their communities, and their failure to turn on their body cameras as required is the height of irresponsibility. I urge you to fire the officers responsible for killing Justine Damond.

Sincerely,

  1. Fire Officer Mohamed Noor for killing Justine Damond. Officer Mohamed Noor should not have been a Police Officer at all.
