Target: Clear Channel Radio Network
Goal: Encourage Rush Limbaugh’s sponsors to end their monetary support due to the talk show host’s hateful remarks
Last week, infamous talk show radio host Rush Limbaugh uttered yet another inflammatory remark about President Barack Obama. This time, in an attempt to defend business owners who he implies are solely responsible for their own success, he overstepped the bounds of critique and stated that Obama “hates the country.” While talk show hosts are given the freedom to voice their opinions, Mr. Limbaugh’s blatant disregard for civility and his tendencies to twist facts into sexist, racist, and hateful commentary justify removal from public radio once and for all.
This remark was a response to one that President Obama made, asserting that businesses cannot achieve success without teamwork and influence. The President’s statement was a humble observation and a reminder that Americans must work together to achieve great things. Limbaugh argued the contrary, that the President is attempting to “dismantle, brick by brick, the American dream.” While Limbaugh’s vulture-like attempts to pick up scraps of dialogue to twist against the President may be effective to conservatives who digest his words without thought, they are lies to everyone else. Rush Limbaugh is a biased extremist whose frequent detestable commentary deserves to be silenced.
If Limbaugh’s sexist remarks against law student Sandra Fluke in February were not proof enough of his abusive verbal tendencies, such flagrant remarks against the President of the United States should be. Please encourage sponsors to end their support and give it to someone who can be a positive influence for citizens of the United States.
Dear Clear Channel Radio Network,
I urge you to remove sponsorship from Rush Limbaugh and instead host someone who gives political commentary without verbal abuse. Limbaugh’s recent hateful remarks against the President of the United States were unjust and, in addition to his past sexist and racist commentary, warrant his immediate removal from talk radio.
Please understand that popularity at the expense of decency is not right. There are many conservative commentators who conduct themselves well and voice their opinions without demoralizing other people for unjust reasons. Despite Limbaugh’s acceptance among fellow extremist conservatives, his hate-filled rhetoric deserves no place on radio. The influence he has over Americans is negative, and I oppose his presence in the media today.
