Justice for Bird Who Perished During Flight

Target: Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas Airlines

Goal: Demand airline take responsibility for the death of a passenger’s pet bird.

A woman’s pet bird froze to death due to reported negligence on her flight from Australia to London. Worse, the airline insists that the bird’s death was due to its owner taking a “risk” despite the fact that Danielle Di Fiore had done months’ worth of research on the best way to safely take her birds with her on the plane and spent thousands of dollars on their airfare, vet care, and trying to obtain answers from Qantas airlines. Despite this, Kokota the bird died of hypothermia.

Whether or not Di Fiore “took a risk,” her bird has died and she is devastated. The airline is reportedly refusing to take any responsibility, claiming that nobody has done anything wrong, but when a passenger brings their pet onto a flight, the airline automatically assumes part of the responsibility for the animal’s safety. Di Fiore had done her part, and it was up to the airline to do theirs. Even if Qantas’ taking responsibility will not bring the bird back to life, Di Fiore insists they do so that future pet deaths can be prevented on their flights.

Kokota’s death need not be in vain. Sign this petition to demand Qantas take responsibility so that future pet passengers can travel safely.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Joyce,

Danielle Di Fiore is devastated after the loss of her pet bird on one of your flights, and has reported your airline’s refusal to take any responsibility beyond simply reaching out to her. Di Fiore conducted months’ worth of research on the best way to travel safely with her birds, but one of the two died of hypothermia. She was told that she took a “risk” and that there was nothing to be done about it.

The bird’s death may have been an accident, but your airline must take responsibility for it in order to prevent future animals’ deaths during flights. Please take further steps to ensure that no more animals are harmed on your flights.

Sincerely,

  1. Qantas cannot take animals on their flights and deny any responsibility whatsoever for their welfare while on the plane.
Obviously they are somewhat responsible, and their callous and cruel treatment of Di Fiore is shocking and inexcusable.
