Target: Walmart CEO Michael Duke
Goal: Don’t buy pork from farms that subject pigs to inhumane living conditions.
The Minnesota-based Christensen Family Farms is the third largest pork supplier in the nation. Tragically, the millions of pigs processed annually by this company are kept under torturous conditions without medical attention or room to move. Ask Walmart to stop purchasing products from this irresponsible producer.
Undercover cameras at the Christensen Family Farms captured heart-wrenching and disturbing footage of pregnant pigs kept in cells barely larger than their bodies. The pigs are shown banging their heads against the bars of their tight quarters in frustration. Open sores and abscesses that develop from the living conditions are left bleeding and untreated. Worse still are the mutilations callously conducted on infant pigs, shown squealing in pain and fear as their tails and testicles are cut off. In response to this video, Christensen Family Farms CEO Robert Christensen revealed no plans to make changes to the farm’s methods, stating that company procedures are within the industry standards. If this is the case, then industry standards are in serious need of review.
Pigs are considered to be one of the most intelligent animals, smarter than both dogs and cats. They have long-term memories, musical preferences, and are able to experience pain and fear just as humans are. We must ensure that these clever and perceptive animals are treated humanely by refusing to support cruel commercial farming practices. Many national super-stores have begun to phase out these products, but Walmart has not yet made the decision. By signing the petition below, you can ask Walmart CEO Michael Duke to immediately stop the purchase of pork products from Christensen Family Farms.
Dear Mr. Duke,
Recent undercover video footage paints a picture of horror at the Christensen Family Farms, the third largest producer of pork in the nation. As is made apparent in the video, this company has no interest in the well-being of its animals. Pigs are squeezed into tiny cages no larger than their bodies, injuries and sores go untreated, and infant pigs squeal in pain and fear as farm workers callously mutilate their bodies with pliers. The CEO of the Christensen Family Farms has made it abundantly clear that he has no plans to change these operations, claiming that they are within industry standards.
Costco, K-Mart, and other corporations across America are beginning to reject this cruelty by banning Christensen Family Farms products from their shelves. I’d like to ask that Walmart join these forward-thinking businesses. Please take a stand against animal cruelty by refusing to sell the products of Christensen Family Farms.
