Thank GM for Taking Stand Against Deforestation

Target: Mary Barra, Chairperson and CEO of General Motors

Goal: Applaud automobile manufacturer GM for taking a stand against deforestation.

Automobile manufacturer GM has taken a stand against deforestation by adopting a policy that bans the use of rubber that’s been acquired by deforestation in its production. GM joins several other companies in this endeavor.

GM will only acquire rubber from forests that are sustainably grown. This will do much to curb deforestation. With the automobile industry consuming 75 percent of the world’s forested rubber, GM’s move will protect large swaths of endangered forests.

Now that GM has taken a stand, other automobile manufacturers will surely follow its lead. Sign the petition to thank GM for taking a stand against deforestation.

Dear Ms. Barra,

I want to thank GM for taking a stand against deforestation and committing to only using rubber from sustainable forests. Over 25 million acres of forests are destroyed every year for products like rubber, palm oil, and timber. However, GM’s latest move will help cut this number down substantially.

GM is held in esteem by many other automobile manufacturers. Those other manufacturers will undoubtedly follow your lead and help protect our world’s forests. Thank you for taking the first step.
