Jeff Sessions: Retract False Statement On Crime In Sanctuary Cities

Target: Jeff Sessions, U.S. Attorney General

Goal: Retract false statement about crime in sanctuary cities.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made a false claim about crime in sanctuary cities, citing research that contradicts what he said. In a recent speech, Sessions said, “When cities like Philadelphia, Boston or San Francisco advertise that they have these policies, the criminals are taking notice, too. They’ve got a good idea of where they might want to go, it seems to me. According to a recent study from the University of California, Riverside, cities with these policies have more violent crime on average than those that don’t.”

However, the study Sessions mentioned found that there is no evidence of sanctuary policies having any effect on crime rates. While it’s possible that Sessions misunderstood the research, it’s more likely that he lied about the study’s findings in order to further the harsh anti-immigration policies of the Trump administration.

Government officials cannot be allowed to publicly lie to further their own agenda. Add your name to the petition below to demand that Sessions acknowledge his false statement and retract it.

Dear Mr. Sessions,

You recently claimed that American cities with sanctuary policies for illegal immigrants have higher violent crime rates than cities without such policies. You cited a study from the University of California, Riverside to back up your statement, when in fact that study did not find any evidence of sanctuary policies affecting crime rates.

As a government official, you serve the American public, and you have a duty to be honest and transparent in your role as attorney general. I demand that you publicly acknowledge and retract the blatantly false statement you made about crime in sanctuary cities.
