Stop Hiding Jeff Sessions’ Contact with Russia

Target: Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General, Department of Justice

Goal: Comply with court order to release security form dealing with contact between Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Russian government.

The Justice Department is refusing to release part of a security clearance form concerning Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ communications with the Russian government, in defiance of a court order. A Justice Department spokesperson said that the agency would provide the information within the 30 days ordered by a judge, but that deadline has now passed.

The form, called SF86, is a standard but detailed security clearance required for certain government positions. The ethics watchdog group American Oversight requested sections of Sessions’ form that related to his contact “with any official of the Russian government.” The group then filed a lawsuit after the documents were not provided, resulting in the court order and the 30-day deadline that has now passed.

According to Austin Evers, executive director of American Oversight, “DOJ has already confirmed its contents to the press and Sessions has testified about it to Congress, so there is no good reason to withhold this document from the public.” He also stated, “Jeff Sessions is our nation’s top law enforcement officer, and it is shocking one of his first acts after being named Attorney General was to mislead his own agency about a matter of national security.” Sign below to demand that the Justice Department protect our national security and release the required documents.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein,

A complete and thorough assessment of the contact between U.S. and Russian government officials is a vital and serious matter for the protection of our country and our democracy. The Department of Justice must not withhold any related information, forms, or documents, especially when it violates a court order.

The 30-day deadline to provide relevant portions of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ SF86 has passed, and yet the DOJ still has not released them. Our national security is at stake. I urge you to comply with the court order and release the documents concerning Sessions’ contact with Russia.

Sincerely,
