Hold Tennessee Mother Responsible for Abandoning Disabled Daughter

abandoned

Target: State Representatives of Tennessee

Goal: To ensure that parents are held legally responsible for their developmentally disabled adult children.

Lynn Cameron, daughter to Eva Cameron, suffers from a severe mental disability. Recently, Eva Cameron drove her daughter from their home in Algonquin, IL to The Big Orange Bar in Caryville, Tennessee. It was at this bar that she decided to abandon her handicapped daughter and drive back to Illinois without her. She told police that she drove down to Tennessee with her daughter in search of better healthcare. However, many speculate that this was an obvious, abusive, thoughtless, and premeditated attempt to desert and essentially separate herself from her daughter so that she would no longer be obligated to provide the care that her child desperately needs.

It is also worth noting that Lynn was born without the mental disability that she currently suffers from. When Lynn was younger, she was left unattended by a pool side. Lynn jumped in the pool and remained underwater long enough to deprive her brain of oxygen and as a result she suffers from extensive brain damage. Had Eva Cameron been a more vigilant mother, then perhaps Lynn wouldn’t be in a condition of mental disability.

Eva Cameron is a neglectful mother and needs to be prosecuted for her crimes against her daughter. However, there is a legislative gap in which she cannot be prosecuted. Because Lynn is 19 years old and legally an adult, Eva is not legally required to provide care for her. Furthermore, Lynn Cameron needs to be placed somewhere where she can get the care she needs and deserves.

Sign this petition to urge State Representatives of Tennessee to bring policies into legislature that will hold parents legally responsible for their developmentally disabled children even after they turn 18.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear State Representatives of Tennessee,

Recently, Eva Cameron drove with her daughter, who suffers from a severe mental disability, to The Big Orange Bar in Caryville, Tennessee. It was there that Eva proceeded to abandon her daughter and drive back to Illinois. It is speculated that this was an abusive, thoughtless, and premeditated attempt to essentially separate herself from her daughter so that she is no longer obligated to provide the love and care that Lynn desperately needs.

Lynn Cameron wasn’t born with the mental disability that she currently suffers from. When Lynn was younger, she was left unattended by a pool side. She jumped in the pool and remained underwater long enough to suffer extensive brain damage. Had Eva Cameron been a more vigilant mother, then Lynn might not be in any condition of mental disability.

Eva Cameron should be prosecuted for abandoning her daughter. However, because Lynn is 19 years old and legally an adult, Eva can no longer be held responsible for her. We need to bring policies into legislature that will hold parents responsible for their developmentally disabled adult children so that Eva may be prosecuted for what should be considered child abandonment. Additionally, Lynn needs to be placed in a facility where she can receive the care she needs and deserves.

Sincerely,
