Target: National Organization For Marriage
Goal: Stop attempting to shut down a popular coffee chain because of its support of same-sex marriage
The National Organization For Marriage (NOM), an anti-gay hate group dedicated to pushing its beliefs on the rest of the world, started a campaign called “Dump Starbucks” after the coffee company declared its support for same-sex marriage. The Dump Starbucks website maintains the belief that Starbucks is endorsing something truly evil: “In many areas of the world where Starbucks does business, the concept of ‘gay marriage’ is unheard of and deeply offensive to cultural, moral and religious values.” In other words, the campaign upholds the idea that people having different lifestyle preferences than others is outrageous. According to NOM, love itself is offensive if it does not fit the description certain church leaders have come up with.
Dump Starbucks remains convinced of the idea that the coffee company, “…has declared a culture war on all people of faith (and millions of others) who believe that the institution of marriage as one man and one woman is worth preserving.” Fortunately, the laughable effort to enforce this belief has failed tremendously. The petition itself has less than 46,000 signatures as of July 13. Considering its launch was in March, this amounts to roughly a mere 9,200 signatures a month. Furthermore, Starbucks itself continues to be the largest and most successful coffee chain in the world.
It is time for the Dump Starbucks operation to be shut down once and for all. Sign the petition now to ask the National Organization For Marriage to end this campaign and cease its disgraceful opposition to homosexuality.
Dear National Organization For Marriage,
I write in regard to your campaign called “Dump Starbucks” that seeks to run Starbucks out of business because of its support of ending marriage segregation. While I admire your dedication to upholding your personal and religious beliefs, I must ask that you cease attempting to impose those beliefs on the rest of the freethinking world.
You claim that Starbucks has declared a “war” on people of faith. I would like to counter this argument by stating that it is you who have started a war, so to speak. It is not up to you to deny civil rights to any citizen based on his or her sexual orientation, nor is it your job to define what makes a marriage. Homosexuality is as much of a choice as heterosexuality is; in other words, it is not a choice at all. Know this fact and know it well, because the future will bring an end to marriage segregation whether you like it or not.
You have the right to disagree with the fact that marriage is between two people who love one another regardless of sex, but you may not condemn lifestyles you simply do not approve of. Dump the Dump Starbucks effort, and recognize defeat. You do not have the authority to take away the rights of millions of others in this nation.
