Free Bahraini Human Rights Activist

Target: Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain

Goal: Grant Rajab a pardon, and immediately release him.

One of Bahrain’s leading human rights advocates has been sentenced to two years imprisonment merely for criticizing his government.

Nabeel Rajab is the head of the Bahrain Center for Human Rights, and has been internationally recognized for his work as a human rights defender. However, in his home country, Rajab has long been viewed as a thorn in the side of the Bahraini monarchy. His imprisonment was supposedly for undermining the “prestige” of Bahrain, and spreading “fake news.”

Specifically, he has reiterated well documented allegations that Bahraini authorities have overseen a massive crackdown on political dissent since 2011, including torturing prisoners. He has also been an outspoken critic of the Saudi-led war on Yemen, which has been widely condemned by human rights groups across the world.

The official story from Bahraini state media is that Rajab received a free and fair trial, and his sentence wasn’t a free speech issue. If you don’t buy the official narrative, then please sign our petition demanding Rajab’s immediate release.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear King Hamad,

Human rights defender Nabeel Rajab has been accused of undermining the “prestige” of the Kingdom of Bahrain. In reality, Rajab’s unjustifiable prison sentence has done more to harm the international standing of Bahrain than anything he himself could ever say or do. Despite the official line from Manama, this is a clear cut case of political repression, meted out to Rajab for his ardent criticism of torture, war and oppression. His sentence is a grim reminder of the dire state of human rights in Bahrain, including the lack of free speech. We therefore demand you issue a pardon to Rajab, and immediately order his release.

  1. Rajab should be immediately freed. His imprisonment is a total outrage.

    • Found out that apparently the King of Bahrain thinks of all of his subjects as slaves, and Rajab was objecting to that.
