Return Yellowstone Grizzly Bears to Endangered Species List

Target: Ryan Zinke, Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior

Goal: Correct premature removal of Yellowstone grizzly bears from endangered species list.

The Yellowstone grizzly bear has been removed from the endangered species list. Unfortunately, this is not a cause for celebration; despite the Interior Department’s insistence that the species has had ample time to recover its population, activist groups and conservationists feel it is far too soon to declare the grizzlies safe.

While it is true that the grizzly population has improved since the 1970s, it is still too soon to remove them from the endangered species list. This removal will strip the bears of the protections granted to them over the past four decades, which could quickly reduce the population once more. In addition, the bears’ natural food sources are dwindling, making it harder for the bears to stay healthy and alive on their own. The growing number of grizzlies does not mean the bears are out of the woods just yet.

It is too soon to remove the vital protections granted to this species by the Endangered Species Act. Sign this petition to demand the Yellowstone grizzly bear be placed back on the endangered list.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Secretary Zinke,

The Department’s decision to remove the Yellowstone grizzly bear from the endangered species list is a dangerous move. Despite the bears’ population having grown since the 1970s, it is too soon to declare them safe, mainly in part due to their rapidly dwindling food supplies. In addition, with their protection revoked, the grizzlies will be in danger of being hunted or having their natural habitat infringed upon by humans, which will quickly bring the population right back to where it started four decades ago.

Do not put these creatures at risk by revoking their protections so quickly. Put the Yellowstone grizzly bear back on the endangered species list right away.

Sincerely,

  1. So sad for the bears. Yes, as the petitioner said, with trophy hunting and other “management” of these bears, their population will soon be right back where it started 42 years ago – or even worse. This is a disgusting move by government.

  2. Stop feeding the need to kill!
Pleasure killers and trophy hunters should undergo a mental evaluation!
    Who is your God?

  3. YOU BAD HUMANS ARE THE REASON A LOT ANIMALS ARE GOING EXTINCT, THIS NEEDS TO STOP!PROTECT THEM.

  4. I am hoping that very soon trophy hunters will be extinct. Good riddance too as they won’t be missed.

  5. Geez, give us a break people…the grizzlies are doing just great and there’s plenty of them…trails are closed this year because of bear activity and sightings are way up according to the rangers in Yellowstone that I talked to.

Yo’re right – grizzlies have come back very successfully. But delist them, and we can see grizzlies, and other delisted or relisted animals, go right back on the brink. Quicker than we could imagine.
That’s why we need to keep them protected.

  6. PATRICIA KatWrangler WELCH says:

Why are we going backwards when it comes to protected species? We’ve come such a long way since the ESA 1973. So many animals came back from the brink of extinction, there’s NOTHING worth reversing these results. Nothing.

Delisting animals can be the end of them very quickly.

The government must stop pandering to ranchers and oil barons. Business interests are ruining my beautiful country.
Absolutely Nothing is more important than our land, clean rivers, oceans and water supply, clean, clear skies and safe
steady populations of healthy wildlife. It is a delicate system and stupidity can easily destroy it. Keep our Universal Creator’s incredible, unique planet Natural. Let those who would destroy it board one of Elon Musk’s or Virgin Atlantic’s rockets into outer space, on a One Way Ticket. Bye!

The human shall destroy and devour himself
Then the earth would again have a chance on LIFE
