Punish Butcher Who Allegedly Gave Black Delivery Man a Noose

Target: Cyrus R. Vance Jr., District Attorney for New York County, New York

Goal: Demand that the butcher who allegedly gave his black delivery man a noose and stated that he would help him use it receive the maximum penalty under law.

A black delivery man was reportedly given a homemade noose as a “gift” from a butcher. The butcher claimed that it was just a joke, but had allegedly made multiple racist comments to the delivery man in the past. Demand justice for this man.

“If you ever have any stress, just put it around your neck and pull it. I could even help you with it.” Joe Ottomanelli, of Ottomanelli & Sons Meat Market on Bleecker St, reportedly said these words to Victor Sheppard after giving him a homemade noose. Ottomanelli then reportedly laughed and wanted to give Sheppard a hug. Sheppard, feeling endangered, went straight to the police.

Sheppard suffered emotional trauma and refused to return to work due to his employer’s continued dealings with Ottomanelli. Ottomanelli has been charged with a hate crime and is awaiting his court date. Sign below and demand that Ottomanelli receive the maximum penalty under law, if convicted.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear District Attorney Vance,

A black delivery man suffered emotional trauma after a butcher allegedly gave him a noose as a gift. The butcher reportedly offered to help him use the noose and laughed. We demand justice for this innocent man.

“He once said, ‘Did you know that just a few years ago, black people couldn’t ride in the front of the bus?’” Sheppard stated. He claimed that Ottomanelli had made multiple racially insensitive comments to him in the past, but that he’d just brushed them off. Sheppard stated that felt endangered by Ottomanelli’s gift and refused to return to work when his company continued to deal with the butcher.

This alleged hate crime cannot go unpunished. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,

  1. Good thing Victor Sheppard didn’t allow this racist psycho butcher to give him a hug. The butcher would probably have stabbed him in the back with one of his butcher knives while hugging him.

  2. Joseph Lalli says:

Anyone who has experienced trauma, whether it was recently or in the distant past, knows that it stays with you and leaves lasting damage.

It is not something to be casually dismissed and it certainly is not something to be laughed about.

For those of us who care about decency, kindness, and justice, our hearts go out to Mr. Sheppard, a man whose only “mistake” here was trying to earn an honest living.

    • I am not “casually dismissing” it. It is entirely possible that this racist butcher who already expressed his desire for this man to die, and to help him kill himself, may have done something like that.
I have experienced trauma and people stabbing me in the back, though not literally.

    • Joseph Lalli – I was being serious. Please think before you judge people.

My comment was not at all addressed to B Denno, but to the article itself and so absolutely no judgement was intended.

If I had intended to respond to B Denno, I would have used the REPLY function.
