Unarmed Black Man Allegedly Brutalized by Police and Bitten by K-9 Dog Deserves Justice

Target: Joe Hall, Chief of Bartow Police Department

Goal: Police officers who allegedly used excessive force against innocent black man in his own home must be fired.

Police allegedly arrived at the home of an innocent African American man and tasered him twice, then allowed their K-9 dogs to bite him. In a video clip captured by a neighbor, the victim is on the ground, and an officer appears to place him in a choke hold, wrestling with his seemingly limp body. A second officer approaches them with an eager K-9 dog. Neighbors can be heard in the background crying out in horror the moment the dog attacks the 21-year-old victim, Marquis Wright.

The officers’ excuse was that the man wasn’t forthcoming with his information, yet they had arrived at the home with an arrest warrant for the victim’s brother.

“I had no record at all,” the victim said, adding that this was his first run-in with the law. In an interview with News Channel 8, Wright, whose leg is still in bandages, could hardly walk, even with the support of a cane. The victim also showed cameras the hole left in his shoulder from the attack.

It’s disturbing that an innocent man can become the victim of violent police brutality all because he didn’t immediately provide them with information. However, it appears that the department has already made the decision to stand behind the officers. The Deputy Chief told outlets “I  don’t have any reason to suspect that they were way out of policy or out of policy at all.” Please add your signature to the petition below to demand that the officers involved be fired for racism and use of excessive force, if guilty.

Dear Mr. Hall,

An innocent African American man was allegedly the victim of police racism and excessive force. Officers arrived at the victim’s home with a warrant for his brother, but when he wasn’t forthcoming with his own information, they allegedly tasered him multiple times, then allowed the K-9 to bite him. The victim is now having to walk with a cane and wear bandages for his injuries.

It’s extremely disturbing that police can justify this level of brutality all because an innocent man wasn’t forthcoming with his information. We demand that the officers involved in this seemingly racist case of excessive force be fired indefinitely, if guilty.

  1. This incident should definitely be investigated by independent investigators.
If guilty, these cops should be fired and fully prosecuted for assault. They should NOT get away with their brutal crimes, as is often the case.
