Polar bears are one of the planet’s most majestic creatures, yet climate change is threatening to destroy the entire species. As the arctic region warms and the ice melts, polar bears are losing more and more of their habitat each year.
Under these conditions, one would think the U.S. government would be taking all available measures to protect the polar bears’ remaining habitat. However, this is opposite from the truth. In reality, as climate change continues to destroy the polar bears’ homes, many members of the U.S. Congress are pushing forward on plans to drill for oil and natural gas in what remains of their habitat.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most important onshore denning habitats for polar bears. Bringing heavy industry into this area will directly threatens the bears’ vital habitat. Additionally, offshore in the Chukchi Sea, puts the entire region at risk from an oil spill.
To ask President Obama to oppose drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, thereby protecting one of the great polar bear habitats, sign the petition below.
