Don’t Reopen Arctic and Atlantic Oceans for Oil Exploration

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Ensure oil drilling is not reinitiated in environmentally vulnerable waters.

President Trump has indicated he will reopen Arctic and Atlantic water to off-shore energy exploration. This will needlessly endanger vulnerable species in places such as the Alaska wildlife refuge at a time of plentiful renewable energy, natural gas and historically low oil pricing.

Off-shore oil exploration has been suspended since President Obama signed a five-year moratorium just prior to leaving office. This declaration followed decades studded by high-profile oil spills which contaminated remote waters and threatened vulnerable species. In one of the most notorious examples, the vessel Exxon Valdez struck a reef, dumping over 10 million gallons of crude oil into Alaska’s Prince William sound. Thousands of birds, fish and mammals died within days and long-term studies determined several species suffered persistent population loss in the years following the spill.

The historically low price of oil has threatened to render off-shore drilling exploration a prohibitively expensive method for extraction. Energy giant Royal Dutch Shell suspended all Arctic drilling activities in 2014, citing an unacceptable return on investment. Falling demand for oil has been hastened by an emerging renewable energy sector, which already employs three times more Americans than oil, natural gas and coal combined.

It is clear that renewed off-shore oil exploration is an economically unnecessary gamble with ecological health. Please sign the below petition demanding President Trump cancel plans to reauthorize energy exploration in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

I am writing to urge that you abandon plans to reopen Arctic and Atlantic waters to off-shore oil exploration. This will needlessly endanger millions of plant and animal species at a time when the demand for oil continues to fall. Energy giants such as Royal Dutch Shell have acknowledged that these activities are no longer cost-effective in voluntarily suspending off-shore drilling prior to President Obama’s moratorium.

The renewable energy sector already employs three times more Americans than coal, natural gas and oil combined. You must realize that the future will be fueled by clean energy sources.

Sincerely,

Trump doesn’t care if he irreparably damages the world. Or how many things he kills. Or how many species of whatever he wipes out. As long as he makes money for himself and his cronies he’s happy, and nothing else matters. Pure unadulterated greed.

  6. HEY, TRUMP, NOBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOUR RICH GREEDY FRIEND. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE ANIMALS AND MAMMALS HOME!

  7. Dear Sir, please prove everyone wrong!
