Save Florida’s Coral Reefs from Destruction

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Save Florida’s fragile coral reefs from budget cuts and destruction.

Donald Trump wants to cut funding from the protection of coral reefs in the Florida Keys, ensuring their destruction. More than $1.7 million from the EPA budget will be eliminated.

This money supports research and protective measures for South Florida’s struggling coral reefs, the third largest reefs in the world. However, only 10 percent of the reefs remain, ruined by both air and water pollution.

Not only does South Florida’s rare ecosystem depend on the reefs, but the state’s citizens also depend on the finances tourism to the reefs bring. Destroying the reefs will destroy the state’s environment and economy. Sign the petition and demand that the federal government protect Florida’s coral reefs.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Trump,

South Florida’s coral reefs are among the third largest in the world. However, you seek to destroy them by cutting federal funding for their protection. Only 10 percent of the reefs remain, but that is sure to change for the worse after your budget cuts.

Destroying the reefs will not only destroy Florida’s unique environment, but also the state’s economy. An unimaginable number of jobs will be lost, jobs you swore to protect as candidate for president. I demand that the federal government continue to fund and protect South Florida’s coral reefs.

Sincerely,

If you still have the notion that countries own their land and seas, you couldn’t be more wrong. Countries do not own them – they are only “tenants”, who must NOT damage what they have rented.
