Cancel Imperiled Trumpcare Bill

Target: Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader

Goal: Permanently end Republican effort to pass healthcare legislation which would leave millions more uninsured.

Republican Senate leadership has delayed voting on health reform legislation in the face of growing opposition from within the party. A diverse group of lawmakers expressed concerns regarding the massive proposed cuts to Medicaid funding, support for drug treatment programs and the associated impact on vulnerable constituents.

The Senate healthcare bill slashes federal support for state Medicaid programs, removes the individual mandate and cuts government subsidies provided to help individuals purchase insurance coverage through state exchanges. Together, these measures will significantly restrict access to medical coverage over time, as the Congressional Budget Office projects 22 million more people would be uninsured within a decade.

Public opinion of the proposed bill has mirrored that of many Democrat and Republican legislators, garnering support from only 17 percent of respondents in a recent poll. Dozens of professional organizations including the Association of American Medical Colleges and American Academy of Pediatrics have warned that reducing Medicaid funding will especially harm children, the elderly and the disabled.

The only group which stands to benefit from passage of the Senate healthcare bill is wealthy Americans who would receive a large tax cut. We cannot allow Republican lawmakers to ram through a hastily constructed, deeply flawed measure that amounts to a transfer of wealth to the upper class. Please sign the below petition calling on Senate leadership to permanently drop the current proposal in favor of a bipartisan solution for fixing the Affordable Care Act.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator McConnell,

I am writing to urge that you permanently abandon this ill-conceived attempt to reform healthcare in the United States. As you are aware, the Congressional Budget Office projects that the proposed bill would cause 22 million more Americans to lose health insurance coverage within a decade. Democrats, dozens of medical associations, several of your Republican colleagues and an overwhelming majority of the public has made clear that this is unacceptable.

Your home state of Kentucky has the largest Medicaid population in the country, many of whom would lose coverage under this proposal. This will jeopardize the health of your most vulnerable constituents and your political career. Preserve both by instead working with moderate Republicans and Democrats on a bipartisan measure to repair the Affordable Care Act.

Sincerely,

Please, stop this horrific new health care bill from passing. It will destroy our healthcare system, leave millions without insurance, raise the cost for senior citizens and single parents. Please, vote against the new Trump care bill!!!!

  2. Kathryn Irby says:

The so-called “TrumpCare” farce may as well be canceled because it will never pass the Senate!!

  3. RoseMarie Dorer says:

    STOP TRUMP CARE

Elected officials should have to use exactly the same health care American taxpayers get and nothing more, nothing extra, NOTHING BETTER. If it’s good enough for US, it’s GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM.

ELECTED DOES NOT MEAN ENTITLED TO BE ENRICHED.

  4. Gigi Middlebrook says:

People of America please please please help get these people out of office. They do not represent us, they represent themselves and the rich. it is time to fight the powers that be.

  5. The right to good health is a Global right that a good society are obligated to support for a reasonable charge in the limits of that even the poorest can afford.

  6. Dump it, trash it, Burn it! Everyone deserves healthcare! No Excuses!
