Don’t Allow Discrimination Against Women

Target: Eric Greitens, Governor of Missouri

Goal: Don’t allow discrimination against women on birth control.

Missouri is seeking to legalize discrimination against women who take birth control. If this new legislation in the state passes, women who take birth control may be barred from employment and even from renting an apartment. Women will be punished for their reproductive health choices.

For centuries, women have been told what to do with their bodies and have been punished for the decisions they make. The government does not have the right to tell women what they can and cannot do for their health. Birth control is used as much more than a safeguard against unexpected pregnancies. It is used to control hormones, acne, and menstruation pains.

Women should not have to make a choice between having an unwanted pregnancy and an apartment. They should not have to deal with severe physical menstruation pains simply to hold a job. Landlords and employers will be allowed to ask women what forms of reproductive health measures they use, when such information should not be any of their business. Sign the petition and demand that this horrific and antiquated law be rejected.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Greitens,

You are supporting legislation in Missouri that will set your state back a century as far as women’s rights are concerned. The legislature in Missouri is proposing a law that would allow women to be fired or evicted simply for choosing to take birth control.

The government, employers, or landlords have no right to dictate how a woman takes care of her body and her reproductive health. Birth control is used for far more than pregnancy prevention and you will be putting the livelihoods of millions of women at risk, women who will be forced to choose between their health and their home, or their health and their job. I demand that you not support this barbaric, antiquated law.

Sincerely,

  1. I can hardly believe this is happening in America! Saudi Arabia maybe or some third world country, but America???? Absolutely appalling and horrifying!
Some of the people behind this are religious – I won’t say what religion(s). (You can find that out for yourself if you want). They are trying to force their religion’s “values” upon people.
This bill SB 5 is a violation of the separation of church and state. In addition it is a violation of women’s rights and freedoms. It should be opposed and struck down immediately.
I hope the Freedom From Religion Foundation takes this up!
