Don’t Pollute Drinking Water for Millions

Target: William H. Graham, Chair of the Delaware River Basin Commission

Goal: Ban fracking in the fragile Delaware Water Basin and protect the drinking water of millions.

The drinking water of millions will be put at risk of pollution if fracking is allowed in the region of the fragile Delaware River Basin. This body of water serves as a source of clean drinking water for 17 million people in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

Currently, a moratorium has been placed on fracking while its effects are being investigated. However, this moratorium is not permanent. If it comes to an end and fracking is allowed, the drinking water of millions will be put at risk. The dirty runoff caused by fracking has been shown to kill animals and even cause cancer in humans.

The Delaware River Basin is a fragile and highly important body of water that millions depend upon. Sign the petition and ask that Delaware River Basin Commission, which is the governing body that has put a moratorium on fracking, enact a strict ban on the damaging practice.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Brigadier General Graham,

The Delaware River Water Basin provides drinking water to an estimated 17 million American citizens, including residents of New York City and Philadelphia, two of the largest cities in the nation. However, if fracking is allowed in the area surrounding the basin, the health of these millions of people will be put at risk.

Hydraulic fracturing has led to polluted water and other damaging environmental effects throughout the nation. Explosions from the natural gas and even earthquakes have been reported. Citizens who have had their water contaminated by fracking have seen their health seriously decline. The Delaware River Water Basin is too fragile and too important to be lost to the consequences of fracking. I ask that this current moratorium on the practice be extended into a ban.

Sincerely,
