Demand Radio Station Stop ‘Banning’ Criticism of Trump

Target: Tim Michaels, general director of WTPA-FM

Goal: Stop allegedly banning radio hosts from criticizing President Donald Trump, and offer former WTPA-FM host Bruce Bond his job back.

A Pennsylvania radio station has been accused of censoring its own journalists, banning them from criticizing President Donald Trump. The allegations were made public after one of WTPA-FM’s most prominent talk show hosts, Bruce Bond, resigned. Bond has stated his resignation was prompted after he received a letter from management ordering him to “cease political discussion.”

A copy of the letter shared by Bond on social media read, “it is not permissible on WTPA airwaves to talk disrespectfully of the President.”

The station’s general director, Tim Michaels, is a well known Trump supporter, has reported. However, Bond himself has stated his show doesn’t have a focus on politics, but that he can’t help being “liberal and brutally honest.”

“It wasn’t my agenda to talk politics, but it’s impossible to avoid the topic of Trump doing a 3-hour talk show. The fact that my bosses would censor me and not allow me to talk about this stuff is ridiculous,” Bond told

If you agree that it’s ridiculous for a radio station to ban its own hosts from critical political discussion, please sign our petition demanding they stop, and offer Bond his job back.

Dear Mr Michaels,

The media plays a crucial role in not only informing the public, but also of providing a forum for frank, honest discussion about politics. It’s therefore concerning to hear that WTPA-FM has allegedly censored its own hosts from talking “disrespectfully” about President Donald Trump. This policy has already allegedly led to the resignation of one WTPA host, Bruce Bond, who said he received a letter from station management ordering him to “cease political discussion.”

If such a policy exists, it represents much more than just an attempted muzzling of a single host. In an era of fake news, alternative facts and declining trust in the mass media, it’s no surprise the public is yearning for honest, sincere political discussion. Yet by gagging your own hosts, WTPA is contributing to the broader credibility problem radio, television and print media is struggling with nationwide. Therefore, in the interests of maintaining a free and reliable press, we urge you to apologize for allegedly ordering WTPA hosts to refrain from criticizing Trump, and commit WTPA to open political dialogue. We also ask you offer Bond his job back, so he can continue to provide his entertaining and informative opinion and analysis to Pennsylvanians.
