Ensure Honest and Open Process for Health Care Bill

Target: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer

Goal: Senate Democrats must withhold consent on regular Senate business to combat the secretive GOP health care push.

The GOP is attempting to pass the new health care bill under the radar, but Democrats can prevent this by refusing to conduct the chamber’s regular business until the bill can be considered in an open and inclusive process. It will also bring attention to the closed-door nature of the GOP’s drafting of the bill thus far, as Republicans aim to rush the bill through and pass it before there is time to point out and deal with any problems.

Democratic leadership has not yet made a decision concerning procedural tactics. However, it is imperative that they make their opposition heard, as the health care bill will cause many Americans to lose their access to health care if it is passed. Sign below to demand that Senate Democrats take action to prevent this bill from being surreptitiously passed.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minority Leader Schumer,

The GOP’s health care push is extremely dangerous to American citizens, who have a right to affordable health care, and the closed-door process Republicans have used in drafting it is unacceptable. Senate Democrats must do everything within their power to combat this and to make their opposition heard.

This bill must not be passed under the radar, without an open process of consideration in which issues can be addressed and satisfactory compromises reached. It is your responsibility to demand this open process and protect American citizens. I urge you to withhold consent on all routine Senate business until this is achieved.

Sincerely,
