Don’t Discriminate Against the LGBTQ Community

Target: Wilbur Ross, Secretary of the Department of Commerce

Goal: Return equal opportunity protections to employment statement and end discrimination against the LGBTQ community.

The Department of Commerce is discriminating against the LGBTQ community by holding members’ sexual orientations and gender identities against them while considering them for employment. The mention of gender identity and sexual orientation was removed from the department’s equal opportunity employment statement very recently.

This will allow members of the department to legally discriminate against LGBTQ community members who are seeking employment in the department. While federal workers remain protected from this discrimination, contract workers do not.

Sexual orientation or gender identity should not prevent one from obtaining a job they are rightfully qualified for. Sign the petition and demand that the previous employment statement be reinstated immediately.

Dear Secretary Ross,

A statement guaranteeing protections for members of the LGBTQ community has disappeared from your department’s employment statement, making it easier for your department to discriminate against anyone due to their gender identity or sexual orientation.

How someone identifies or who someone loves should not prevent them from being treated fairly in the workplace, especially if their skills qualify them for the position. I demand that you reinstate the department’s previous equal opportunity employment act and return protections to the LGBTQ community.
