Target: Cai Jianjiang, President of Air China
Goal: Stop Air China’s transport of primates to US laboratories for animal testing.
After almost every other airline in the world has stopped, Air China continues to transport monkeys from Asia to laboratories in the United States, where they are ultimately experimented on and killed. Most of them are bred in farms, where they have limited space and unsanitary conditions. Still others are taken from the wild and put onto a plane.
The conditions on the plane are terrible, as the monkeys are put in the cargo hold, often on passenger flights. Most passengers never find out that they are on a plane transporting monkeys. The monkeys are terrified, especially if they come from a home in the wild, going from their regular habitat with their families to a cramped, dark cage aboard a plane.
Once they arrive at the laboratories, they are separated from the other monkeys and isolated in small cages. Monkeys are very intelligent, social creatures, and being trapped in a barren cage away from even the monkeys they traveled with leads to boredom, loneliness, frustration, and depression. They are also subject to horrible testing, such as being infected with deadly diseases, having tubes forced down their throats and being pumped full of chemicals, and getting cut open to have devices implanted in their brains.
Animal testing is cruel to the animal, and so many other cargo and passenger airlines such as China Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Delta Airlines, British Airways, and Lufthansa have already banned the transportation of monkeys to the US for laboratory use, yet Air China continues to lead these monkeys to a life of suffering and painful death.
By signing the petition below, you are asking Air China to join with other major airlines in banning the transportation of primates to laboratories in the US. Ask them to stand for animal rights, and refuse to aid in the torture of animals.
Mr. Cai Jianjiang,
Primates used for scientific testing are subjected to horrific experiments such as being infected with deadly diseases, being pumped full of chemicals, and being cut open. They are also subjected to starvation, dehydration, and social isolation. The conditions they are kept in are appalling. However, Air China continues to transport monkeys to US laboratories, even though most major airlines have banned this practice. Your company even allows primate transportation on passenger flights without the passengers’ knowledge.
I am asking you to please ban the transportation of primates on Air China flights. Please stop aiding these US laboratories in abusing and torturing these primates, who are either bred in captivity or are stolen from their homes in the wild. Join other major airlines in standing up for the rights of animals.
