Purify Contaminated Drinking Water for 15 Million Americans

Target: Scott Pruitt, Administrator, Environmental Protection Agency

Goal: Remove known carcinogen from primary drinking sources for 15 million people in the United States.

Decades of manufacturing processes using a class of chemicals known as PFCs has contaminated drinking water sources serving 15 million Americans. Use of the chemical has been discontinued, however PFC levels exceeding that considered safe by the Environmental Protection Agency has been detected nationwide.

PFCs are commonly used in the manufacture of items such as non-stick pans, food packaging and firefighting foam. The Environmental Protection Agency considers exposure to PFC chemicals above 70 parts per trillion a health hazard. Peer-reviewed research indicate potential for harm at levels as low as 14 parts per trillion. Those in long-term contact are at risk for several cancers, liver failure and low-birth weight in infants.

A multi-year review of PFC contamination by Northeastern University found concentrations above the 70 parts per trillion threshold in 162 separate sites across the United States. Several populated areas along the Delaware River tested over 1,000 parts per trillion. The Environmental Protection Agency has thus far not committed to revisiting the accepted toxicity level, or providing additional resources for water purification.

It is clear PFC contamination is an urgent health concern for millions across the United States. Please sign the below petition calling on the Environmental Protection Agency to assist impacted states in ensuring water purity.

Dear Administrator Pruitt,

I am writing to urge that you address PFC contamination in the United States. Over 15 million Americans have been exposed to concentrations of PFC beyond the level considered safe. As you are aware toxic exposure to these chemicals can lead to cancer, liver failure and low-birth weight in infants.

Please demonstrate your commitment to public safety by pledging additional resources for water purification to the 162 impacted areas.

Environmental PROTECTION Agency. Please note the capitalized word. It is not the Poisoning of America Agency.

  3. George Pinnell says:

As fluoride is part of the Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFCs), and is toxic in its own right, the deliberate contamination of our drinking water with fluoridation schemes should be stopped forthwith.

If fluoridation is a serious attempt at medication then the fluoride compounds used should be required to have a medical products licence! This would no doubt prove unsuccessful as sodium fluoride has been widely used as an effective rat poison! Even when sourced from pollution scrubbers the fluoride compounds ARE NOT refined to pharmaceutical standards – so also contain other toxic nasties, including arsenic, lead and mercury!

Ignoring such basic safeguards is irresponsible and reckless. This compounds the error of using the water supply as a method of delivering medication – as it denies consumers their right of consent.

    • I totally agree with you. Fluoride is a toxin that is being administered to us against our will. Even most bottled water – at least here in Canada – now contains added fluoride! It’s hard to avoid this toxic substance.

  4. we need clean water to survive! so please clean up our water!
