Don’t Make Climate Denier the Justice Department’s Lead Environment Attorney

Target: Mitch McConnell, Majority Leader, United States Senate

Goal: Block nomination of individual long known for questioning the scientific consensus on climate change as senior Justice Department environment attorney.

The Trump Administration has nominated corporate attorney Jeffrey Bossert Clark to lead the Environment and Natural Resources Division within the Justice Department. This continues a pattern of installing industry advocates in prominent administration positions.

Clark has a long record of questioning climate research and battling environmental regulations on behalf of energy companies. This includes arguing unsuccessfully that the Environmental Protection Agency should not be allowed to base regulation of greenhouse gas emissions on scientific research conducted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He has also vigorously opposed Clean Air Act regulations and defended energy giant British Petroleum in lawsuits stemming from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Environmental groups such as the Natural Resources Defense Council have spoken out in opposition to the nomination. If confirmed, Clark would bring a clear bias in favor of industry to the Justice Department. Please sign the below petition urging Senate leadership to side with public safety and environmental integrity by rejecting this nominee.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Senator McConnell,

I am writing to urge that you vote against Jeffrey Bossert Clark’s nomination to lead the Environment and Natural Resources Division within the Justice Department. He has a long history of challenging environmental regulation and climate science on behalf of corporate clients such as British Petroleum. It is clear that if confirmed, he would bring a clear bias in favor of industry, at the expense of public safety and environmental health.

Sincerely,

  1. Although I disagree with the petitioner that questioning climate science is somehow wrong or bad – I think we have the right to question things and investigate issues ourselves – I am still signing this petition. Clark is definitely not a good choice because of his advocacy for oil corporations, and his appointment would be a clear conflict of interest.

  2. climate change is real, and must be deakt with by people who beleive this to be true, which it is.

  3. Climate Denier are only egoistic slaves to the money.

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” – Matthew 6:24.

    • That may be the case, but I am remaining on the fence about this issue till I have researched it fully myself.
Btw, love your dog – or is it a wolf – picture!
