Demand Removal of Anti-Choice Marquee Outside Church

church

Target: Pastor Patrick Dye

Goal: Remove offensive anti-choice sign outside of church

The Macedonia Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina has taken the war on women to a whole new level. Fully visible by the public and spreading a clear message of hatred, a marquee outside their church reads, “Ultimate Racism: Abortionists Target Black Babies.” This sign was put up in an obvious effort to snub Planned Parenthood, a popular woman’s healthcare organization that provides abortions in addition to cancer screenings, pap smears, and birth control. According to Pastor Patrick Dye who set up the sign, “Planned Parenthood purposely locates in minority communities.” It should be noted that the exact opposite is true. A Planned Parenthood representative responded that the average patients are white women between the ages of 18 and 24, but that several Planned Parenthood buildings are built in low-income areas to help those that need the practice’s healthcare the most.

The most disturbing part of this attack on women’s reproductive rights is the idea that somebody would post such an outrageous lie to voice their approval of controlling a woman’s body. Sign the petition now to demand that the Macedonia Baptist Church never post such material again, and request an apology from the pastor who had the nerve to make ignorant and drastic assumptions in the first place.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Pastor Patrick Dye,

I write in regard to your marquee post outside the Macedonia Baptist Church that reads, “Ultimate Racism: Abortionists Target Black Babies.” First of all, I would like to inform you that you do not have the right to tell a woman what she may or may not do with her uterus. The difficult and highly personal topic of abortion should be discussed between a woman and her doctor, not pastors in churches. Secondly, the statement that you made was completely false. As a Planned Parenthood representative stated, the average patients they personally see are white women between the ages of 18 and 24 – not that Planned Parenthood doesn’t reach out to people of all races and ethnicities.

You should know by now that abortions occur not because the women seeking them are racist, but because they have determined that for medical, financial, and/or emotional reasons, they are incapable of carrying a fetus full-term and/or incapable of providing for a child for eighteen years. The choice is theirs and theirs alone, and I urge you to remember this crucial fact. Please remove the offensive sign and please do not consider posting such insulting material in the future.

Sincerely,
