Target: Michael Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia
Goal: To create more bike lanes in Philadelphia in order to keep bikers safe.
In a city as busy and crowded as Philadelphia, one of the most convenient modes of transportation is biking. Unfortunately, the lack of bike lanes in Philly creates an extreme safety hazard for bikers. The combination of heavy car traffic and narrow one-way streets makes it impossible for bikers to feel safe unless there is a bike lane. Philadelphia has provided parking garages for cars and inexpensive subway transportation; however, the lack of bike lanes is an outdated idea that needs to be changed.
Due to the poor economy, more and more people are finding it convenient to use their bike for transportation; thus, the number of bikers in the city is continually increasing. The city of Philadelphia can no longer ignore the multitude of bikers and the fact that they deserve as much comfort and safety as any other form of transportation.
By increasing the number of bike lanes in Philadelphia, more people will inevitably feel safer, and thus, more people will ride their bikes as transportation. The increase of bikers will not only lead to a decrease in gas emissions from cars, but also it will benefit the economy and provide a healthy form of exercise for people. It is imperative that more bike lanes are created in order to benefit the safety of Philadelphia residents.
Dear Michael Nutter,
It is extremely important to create more bike lanes in Philadelphia. Bikers feel unsafe and are putting their lives in danger just to be able to get around the city. It is no secret that biking is a mode of transportation that is rapidly increasing in popularity. Not only does it allow people to get exercise, but it is also an economic alternative to driving. With an increasing number of bikers, more people are finding that their commute is a lot less safe than they would like.
The lack of bike lanes is not going to stop people from riding their bikes in the city, but it will put all of these people in danger. This is not only a safety issue for bikers, but also for those who drive a car. Bikers and cars now have to share the road, making it much more probable that bike or car accidents will happen. If bike lanes were in place, each type of vehicle would have their own safe area to travel in.
If you want to decrease dangers in the city of Philadelphia, more bike lanes must be created as soon as possible in order to keep citizens safe.
