Protest Outrageous and Unnecessary Lawsuit Against Cartoonist

Target: Charles Carreon, Lawyer for

Goal: To stop a pointless lawsuit that will harm an innocent cartoonist and take money away from charities

In a bizarre twist to a fundraising campaign, a site called is suing Matt Inman, the creator of a popular cartoon site called The Oatmeal, in addition to the American Cancer Society and the National Wildlife Federation. The cause for this is unclear due to the fact that has hosted hundreds of Inman’s cartoons on its site for years and has illegally cashed in from advertising on the pages of these stolen comics.

After Inman made a public observation that FunnyJunk was hosting his cartoons for free, FunnyJunk’s lawyer, Charles Carreon, demanded that Inman pay $20,000 on the grounds that he was accusing FunnyJunk of “criminal conduct”. In a sharp-witted reply to this, Inman declared that instead of giving $20,000 to FunnyJunk for “damages”, he was going to raise that amount of money and donate half of it to the National Wildlife Federation and the other half to the American Cancer Society. As a result, all three organizations are now being sued by FunnyJunk in an attempt to stop the fundraiser. Why? Carreon simply claims that the money won’t reach the organizations, a statement that is entirely false.

Sign the petition now to show your support for Matt Inman and urge Charles Carreon to drop this ridiculous lawsuit.

Dear Charles Carreon,

After hearing details about your dedication to suing The Oatmeal and its fundraising campaign, I am at a loss as to why you are continuing to threaten Matt Inman and his chosen charities with a lawsuit., your client, illegally hosted Inman’s work on its site for years. After the site made money from advertising, Inman should be the one suing FunnyJunk, not the other way around.

What do you expect to accomplish from this lawsuit? is not entitled to any of Inman’s money, nor are you. Furthermore, by suing The Oatmeal you are implying that you wish to shut down a fundraiser for the National Wildlife Federation and the American Cancer Society. I urge you to drop this lawsuit and allow Inman to continue his fundraiser. This has gone on long enough, and it is time you recognized defeat.
